What is a Cake Smash?
A cake smash is a fun, playful photo session done to celebrate a baby’s first birthday. Your child is given a cake to explore, taste, and (most of the time) enthusiastically smash.
My baby doesn't like cake or has an allergy, is there any other options?
If your baby doesn’t like cake, that’s completely okay! A cake smash doesn’t have to involve cake at all. I provide Birthday Sessions that are just like a cake smash but without the cake.. or we are able to substitute the cake for something else.. these options include a fruit smash, donut or pancake smash, or even ice cream!
For those wanting a cake smash but worried about allergies - I usually hand bake all of my cakes, however I can't ensure my work space is fully allergy friendly. For this reason, I buy in an allergy friendly cake. Send me a message to discuss and I will happily send you more information.
Another alternative that is mess free is a fake cake! I have a selection of fake cakes at the studio (from realistic looking ones to wooden ones.) Please let me know if you would like this in advance and it can be arranged to match.
What if my child doesn't smash the cake?
There are no rules and no expectations. Some babies dive straight in, some carefully poke the frosting, and others prefer to investigate with their feet first. Every reaction is different, and that’s what makes cake smash photos so special. You are guarenteed to get photos to look back on and cherish, it's all about capturing the moment!

The Custom Cake Smash is a fully personalised first birthday photoshoot designed to reflect your child’s personality, interests, and favourite things. From favourite storybook characters, TV shows.. to specific colour palettes or themes, every detail is thoughtfully planned out with you in advance and custom built by myself and my wonderful team.
